The Australian Working Holiday Visa allows travelers age 18 to 30 years with exception to Canadian, French and Irish citizens 18 to 35 years old to work and earn through short-term employment. Some Regions in Australia under certain circumstance may allow you to extend your visa up to 2 years.
There are two sub-categories under the Working Holiday Visa, Working Holiday Visa Subclass 417 and Subclass 462. Eligibility for either visa depends on your country of residence.
This visa stream allows you to live and work all types of casual, shift, full-time, part-time and voluntary jobs in Australia for up to 12 months. Holders of this visa can leave and re-enter Australia any number of time during the validity of the visa.
This visa stream also affords the holders to study for the duration of the visa.
To be eligible for this visa, you must satisfy the following requirements.
Be a citizen of the following eligible countries
- Republic of Cyprus
- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (including British National Overseas passport holders)
- Republic of Ireland
- Republic of Korea
- Taiwan (other than an official or diplomatic passport)
- The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Be This Age
To be eligible for this visa, you must not be older than 30 or younger than 18 years, with exception to Canadian, Irish and French citizens who can be 18 to 35 years old.
However, if you are 30 while you while, but turn 31 before your application is granted, you can still be granted the visa.
You will be ineligible for this visa if you have previously entered Australia on either of the following visas
- Working Holiday visa (subclass 417)
- Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462)
Have The Required Funds
One of the major requirements for this visa stream is the availability of funds. You must have enough money to cater for yourself during your stay in Australia.
The minimum required amount for this visa is usually about AUD5,000.
Meet The Health Requirement
It is a mandatory requirement for all applicants to meet minimum health requirement because of the health standards Australia enjoys.
This is done to protect the Australian community from public health and safety risks, especially tuberculosis.
Meet The Character Requirement
Satisfying the character requirement is a major consideration during all visa application.
You must prove to the immigration official that you are of good character and do not have a substantial criminal record.

All applicants must acknowledge the Australian Values Statement that confirms you will during your stay obey and respect the Australian way of life and laws.
Previously the Working Holiday Visa holders were required to work in specific areas of Australia, but the recent changes now enable the Working Holiday Visa to work in a much wider geographical area.
The previous six months stay with the same agricultural employer has been extended to 12 months.
