ICSP Scholarships at University of Oregon USA

As far back as 1859, Congress required Oregon’s founders to establish a public university. Well, today that university is the University of Oregon. Oregon’s pioneers were more concerned with eking out a living than with the refinements of higher education. But in the early 1870s, Judge Joshua Walton convinced residents of Eugene City to become home to what would become the fledgling state’s flagship university.

Construction on our first building began in 1873. Five faculty members taught the first group of students in 1876. Subsequently, two years later, we produced our first graduating class: John C. Whiteaker, George S. Washburne, Robert S. Bean, Matthew S. Wallis, and Nellie A. Condon.

Since then we’ve awarded diplomas to tens of thousands of young people—geologists and writers, painters and chemists, innovators and rule-breakers, lawmakers and dancers, dreamers and doers.

Today, more than 24,000 students, from all 50 states and more than 95 countries, study in Oregon. Therefore, the ICSP Scholarships at the University of Oregon USA was created. This is to help international students who are academically intelligent but struggling with their finances.

International students who demonstrate financial need and exceptional merit may apply for the International Cultural Service Program (ICSP). The ICSP scholarship has a cultural service component that requires students to give presentations about their home country to children, community organizations, and UO students, faculty, and staff. ICSP students agree to complete 80 hours per year of cultural service as required by the program.
